We are a dedicated group of paranormal investigators located in Ottawa, Canada’s capital. We are a non-profit organization. We believe in the use of scientific methods, systematic processes, skepticism and logical thinking for data collection and analysis. As researchers, it is important for us to help individuals understand what might be at work in their environment and help them manage it in a positive manner.
We hope we can be of service to you in the future. Our professionalism and experience, hopefully, can ease your worries and fears of the unknown.
We here at Bytown Paranormal know you are our first concern in safety and peace of mind. We are serious in what we do. Dealing with the paranormal can be a tricky task. Is it really a spirit? Or not. Can it hurt me? What can I do to rid of it from my home? and most importantly, Is there anyone that can help so i don’t feel like I’m going crazy or someone thinks I am. All important questions of which we will do our very best to help!
Why did we choose the name “BYTOWN PARANORMAL?” Bytown is the former name of Ottawa, Canada’s capital city. It was founded on September 26, 1826, incorporated as a town on January 1, 1850, and superseded by the incorporation of the City of Ottawa on January 1, 1855. To this day the downtown core of the city still call it Bytown and there are still many of the old buildings that were built during that time still in use.
Director, Social Media Manager, Lead Investigator
I have been fascinated with the Paranormal for years and decided to pursue after seeing some strange events in my life. I was one of the founders of Bytown Paranormal and we created this team to fit our morals and beliefs after some bad experiences elsewhere in the field. I enjoy history a great deal and being on the team allows us access to places many can only dream of. It is a true passion to spread our love of history throughout the Ottawa Valley and surrounding area and support as many historical sites as we can. From Ghosts, to UFOs, to even questions about Bigfoot, there are so many things that we still do not know.
Investigator, Tech, Photographer
I got interested in the paranormal field originally because of the technology. After a short time it became more because I was curious about life after death; whether or not it exists.
Investigator, Public Relations/Media Relations
I have been interested in the paranormal for years now. I’ve been watching all the shows since I can even remember. I think it all started with the X-Files when I was just a kid and it’s just grown into a bigger fascination since. I’d have to say that I’m half believer and half skeptic, and I’m still awaiting the day when I experience something that gives me no doubt at all that there’s something else out there. Until that day arrives, I’ll always be looking.
Investigator, Event Coordinator
Sue Miller has always been intrigued in the paranormal, thanks to a father who was interested in anything unknown. When he passed away when she was 10, it only deepened her interest, especially when her family spoke of incidents which happened after he passed: bells ringing, noises in the night, and furniture being moved. She began doing investigations on her own in the 1990s, collecting other people’s ghost stories along the way. She worked 3 years with Ottawa’s Haunted Walk before moving into the business world. Sue has been with Bytown Paranormal since 2012 and looks forward to many more years creeping around in old places looking for things that go bump in the night.
Quebec Liaison, Investigator, Media Relations
Sandra is a native of France and is our Quebec liaison. Sandra speaks fluent English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. She has lived in quite a few different countries. Sandra resides in Shawville, Quebec and works in Ottawa for Sunlife Financial. She first got in touch with us due to some strange events in her own 1890 built home. Sandra has a keen interest in the paranormal, has a compassionate nature and can adapt quite easily to different situations she may be faced with.
A native of Hong Kong, I moved to Canada with my family when I was two years old. My interest in the paranormal started when I visited Savannah, Georgia and took a haunted tour of the Sorrel-Weed house. To my amazement, I had caught my first EVP. Since then, I have been looking for other signs, but mostly on tours. I like learning about the history of places, trying to find out why the spirits are still with us and trying to figure out why it goes “bump in the night.” My journey in exploring the paranormal continues with a scientific and curious mind. My other interests include archery, photography and Geocaching (a sport played with GPS devices to hunt for hidden containers). As a volunteer with the St. John Ambulance Brigade of Canada, I was trained as an Advanced Medical First Responder, but now volunteer as their public relations photographer for Federal District.
Chelsea is our youngest member. She became interested in the field because of her dad’s participation. Chelsea brings youth and energy to the team and is eager to learn more about the Paranormal. In her spare time, she enjoys soccer year round, photography, her many pets, her friends and of course scouting.
Investigator, Researcher, Evidence Review
Ever since I was a little kid, I have been interested in the paranormal. Having had a few experiences in my youth, I was fascinated by anything related to the subject. It was that fascination that brought me to join the team. I was looking for a new hobby and paranormal investigation seemed to be the perfect fit. I am curious by nature and enjoy learning new things so I jumped in head first and have loved every minute of it!? The question I get asked most often is: Aren’t you scared? and to be honest, I haven’t been scared yet, at least not by a ghost! I look at it as a ghost is just a person who no longer has a body. I have always been a people person and would go out of my way to help someone, so something clicked into place for me during a discussion at an investigation when a member said “Imagine you are standing in a room, yelling at the top of your lungs and no one around you hears you?”. That struck a chord with me. So along with trying to gather evidence of their existence, my reason for joining the team is to be that person that says “I hear you.”
Since my childhood, I have always been fascinated with everything Paranormal. From a kid scared of its own shadow, I grew up to become a skeptic by nature who has always wanted to know more and more about it. One may say I’m a bit like Fox Mulder in the X-files, I want to believe!
For the past 20 years, my areas of interest and research have been ghosts and entities, ancient astronaut theories, mythical and legendary monsters. Being a fan of Canadian and US history (with a little soft spot for war history), I have always loved to hear about people and regional stories. We can learn so much about history, even in our own backyard!
I joined the team for the whole ride: use of technology and science to capture evidences, personal experiences, everything! Particularly, if my contribution could benefit families (particularly kids, I have a 4 year-old girl at home) that may be scared of those phenomena and want ensure their family safety while learning more about what they are experiencing.
